Map coloring is the act of assigning different colors to different features on a map. Color use is always consistent on a single map. The colors used on maps have a relationship to an object or feature on the ground. blue is almost always the color chosen for water.
The Survey of India used seven standard colors to depict the distributional pattern of land use.
- Black : For lettering boundaries and railways.
- Blue : For water bodies.
- Brown : For contours.
- Green : For forests.
- Grey : For hill shading.
- Red : For buildings and roads.
- Yeliow : For cultivated area.
