Partition of Bengal
Partition of BengalThe first Partition of Bengal (1905) was a territorial reorganization of the Bengal Presidency implemented by the authorities of the British Raj. The reorganization separated the largely Muslim eastern areas from the largely Hindu western areas. Announced on 19 July 1905 by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India, and implemented on 16 October 1905, it was undone a mere six years later. division of Bengal carried out by the British viceroy in India, Lord Curzon, despite strong Indian nationalist opposition. It divided Bengal into Hindu-dominated west which consisted of Bihar, Odisha, etc. and Muslim dominated East Bengal with Assam. There was a great protest by the Hindus and Muslims of Bengal against it and the plan had to be abandoned.
In 1947, Bengal was partitioned for the second time, solely on religious grounds, as part of the Partition of India following the formation of the nations India and Pakistan. In 1947, East Bengal became East Pakistan, and in 1971 became the independent state of Bangladesh.

Goods and Service Tax (GST) launched on 30th June from midnight. GST is the biggest tax reform in India and can be beneficial for the Indian Economy. According to the Govt. of India, the GST must help India to fight against corruption and black money. It is a ‘Good and Simple’ tool through which the people of every sector of India including the poor can get benefited. Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax (or consumption tax) used in India on the supply of goods and services. It is a comprehensive, multistage, destination-based tax: comprehensive because it has subsumed almost all the indirect taxes except a few state taxes. .
Multi-staged as it is, the GST is imposed at every step in the production process but is meant to be refunded to all parties in the various stages of production other than the final consumer and as a destination-based tax, it is collected from point of consumption and not point of origin like previous taxes.
