A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the Earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight. This occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned. In a total eclipse, the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned , with Earth between the other two. A lunar eclipse can occur only on the night of a full moon.
സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്, ഭൂമിയുടെ ഒരു ഭാഗം ചന്ദ്രൻ എറിഞ്ഞ നിഴലിൽ മുഴുകുമ്പോൾ സൂര്യപ്രകാശത്തെ പൂർണ്ണമായോ ഭാഗികമായോ തടയുന്നു. സൂര്യനും ചന്ദ്രനും ഭൂമിയും വിന്യസിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് ഇത് സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്. ഭാഗികവും വാർഷികവുമായ ഗ്രഹണങ്ങളിൽ സൂര്യന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗം മാത്രമേ അവ്യക്തമാകൂ. ഭൂമിയുടെ നിഴലിലേക്ക് ചന്ദ്രൻ നീങ്ങുമ്പോൾ ചന്ദ്രഗ്രഹണം സംഭവിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു ആകാശഗോളത്തിന്റെ നിഴൽ മറ്റൊരു ആകാശ ഗോളത്തിൽ പതിയുന്നതാണ് ഗ്രഹണം.️ സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം, സൂര്യനും ഭൂമിക്കും ഇടയിൽ ചന്ദ്രൻ വരുന്നു. സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം നടക്കുന്നത് കറുത്തവാവ്/അമാവാസി ദിനങ്ങളിൽ. സൂര്യഗ്രഹണ സമയത്ത് ഭൂമിയിൽ ദൃശ്യമാകുന്ന വിവിധ പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങൾ 1) ബെയ്ലീസ് ബീഡ്സ് (Bailey's Beads ) 2) ഡയമണ്ട് റിങ്ങ് (Diamond Ring).സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം ഭൂമിയിൽ മൂന്ന് വിധത്തിൽ പ്രകടമാകുന്നു 1). പൂർണ്ണ സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം 2). ഭാഗിക ഗ്രഹണം 3). വലയ ഗ്രഹണം. പൂർണ്ണ സൂര്യഗ്രഹണം അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്ന ഭൂമിയിലെ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് പാത്ത് ഓഫ് ടോട്ടാലിറ്റി.
