Government of Kerala has decided to create a new level of government officers in state service. Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) is the civil service of Kerala. Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) selected candidates will be appointed to second gazetted posts in 29 government departments including Land Revenue, Finance, State Lottery , Secretariat services and common category posts in other departments. The officers for this post will be recruited by Kerala Public Service Commission through KAS examination. Kerala Administrative Service notification is getting finalized. Kerala government has approved the amendments and modification recommended by Kerala PSC in case of the pattern of examination and its syllabus. The notification is expected in 2019, as PSC have to decide the exam pattern and syllabus. Prelims to Mains exam conducts in similar way of UPSC Civil Services Exam.

Syllabus of the exam will be decided by Kerala PSC and the examination will be in 2 phases and an interview. KAS examination will have to undergo three stages in the selection procedure.
KAS officers will be selected in three streams. By direct recruitment 1/3rd vacancies will be filled. 1/3rd vacancies will be filled from regular government employees. Remaining vacancies will be filled from 1st gazetted officers in government departments.
Preliminary (Primary Exam) is for 200 Marks, There will be two papers in the Preliminary Examination. There will be hundreds of questions for both exams. two tests perform On the same day. Those who succeed can write the main test.Kerala PSC is yet to finalize KAS syllabus. The following topics are expected in the KAS Preliminary Exam.

Mains (main exam) is for 450 marks There will be three papers in Mains (descriptive examination). Means will have a total of 450 marks for each paper. Three papers are as follows:
The interview will be 50 marks. The syllabus of the exam may be similar to the post of Deputy Collector and Malayalam Language may have some weight-age in both Prelims and Mains.
The total number of posts in the second gazette category is 1170 which is considered to be included in the various administrative departments from various departments. Total vacancies in the junior time scale are 10 and 117. Every year one third of the vacancies in the second Gazette post in various departments will be allocated to the Kerala Administrative Service.
